If I was a little gal....

Hello dolls. So I went by the Brooklyn Flea this past weekend, grabbed my coffee and scone from Choice's stand and headed over to see the nicest lady in the vintage game, Amy. She had great stuff as usual and it was such a nice day it made me miss being her neighbor at the flea. The vibe was great and there were some new vendors, old friends and lots and lots of old clothes.  Maria was back, I haven't seen her in a while and she brought the abaya of our dreams with her. She always has great stuff and is located in front of the Choice stand, very convenient. The rainbow colored racks belong to Sarah. I'm a sucker for a rainbow colored rack, it totally draws me in. Good stuff everywhere, I really had to hold myself back.  I'm also really making an effort to unload the basement full of stuff I have. Today I posted stuff up on ebay (seller name:honeydip_bouche, if you're so inclined). I think I might have to give the market another go one of these weekends before the bitter cold sets in. Its time to cash in and take a well deserved vacation (see my post below). So yeah, you might see me around at the ol' flea soon with a heap of vintage clothes. Stay tuned....

Dreaming of the ocean......

So there's a crispness in the air. Its usually around this time every year that it starts dawning on me that winter is coming. This usually means I start fantasizing about going to faraway, exotic and warmer places.  For years I have been obsessed with going to Palawan in the Philippines.  I saw a documentary on it on PBS and the seed was planted. Its like a 20 hour flight to Manila and then you have to take another 2 hour flight by propeller plane. Unfortunately I saw this documentary after I got pregnant and I don't foresee myself going on this adventure for a little while longer, but a girl can dream....Going on a South American vacation is alot more realistic. I haven't been to Argentina and Uruguay (my motherland) since pre-baby but the time has come to go back. I cannot say how much I love Buenos Aires. It looks like Paris and is beyond cheap. Not to mention the San Telmo flea market (one of the best in the world!), the food, architecture, people, underground tango clubs, street fashion. When I was there we were shooting next to an old costume shop. I ended up coming home with a suitcase full of weird showgirl dolly costumes, it was ridiculous. Uruguay is really emotional for me, its like a step back in time. Its really laid back, all the roads are still unpaved, everyone hops on their moped down to the beautiful beaches (only 2 blocks from my grandparents estancia!). I rented a car and drove with my aunt and uncle to Punta del Este (think South Beach). Not so impressed (I grew up in Miami) but there are smaller towns in between montevideo and Punta del Este that are groovy and worth checking. If you're that close to Brazil, you have to go. This is the route my mom made in her yellow VW bug on her way to America. We lived in a tent on the beach and washed our clothes in the ocean. I think this is where my gypsy dreams were born. We're going to try and make this trip happen in February, as I'm sure we'll be needing a break from the cold. Of course we'll go to Rio but I'm dying to check out the red dune beachesof Morro Branco further north. Might be hard with a 3 year old but my mom did it and I think I was a bigger pain in the....than Yeshai.

Some Favorites and New Acquisitions

So I didn't shop my face off this week, but I found the most amazing necklace ever.  There could not be a more appropriate necklace for me to have in my life. The mysterious powers of thrift strike again. So after I got obsessed by the egyptian necklace in my friend's booth at the flea, I find an enormous gold and enamel cobra necklace. Seriously bananas! Its not signed and someone probably wore it with their cleopatra costume for Halloween but...every day is Halloween around here. The other thing I found was the crazy geometric bird on the shoulder sweater. I can't wait to wear that with high-waisted jeans. Two of my favorite motifs...birds and snakes. I also found stuff I forgot I bought and got into a jewel tone frenzy. I especially love the deco-ish colorblock purple dress. I also found those amazing white fringe zodiac rockabilly shoes and then I decided I'd photograph the metallic oversized rockabilly jacket. My friend was telling me how he cornered Janelle Monae at a party this week, and it stuck in my head. The Florida bag I found in a bin and I've had it for like 12 years. I got it at my favorite Miami thrift store and it reminds me of living behind an orange grove in Ft. Pierce and climbing the fence after the workers went home to pick oranges. A coral snake also shot out of a window AC unit like a cannon at my mom's pregnant belly while living there, but thats a whole nother blog. There's also the blue/black dress with the weird beaded pocket...how do I feel about that? Will get back to you. I do love the obscenely low cut Stephen Burrows dress and the turquoise fringe beaded vest...mama does love her a fringe vest. Enjoy.....

Mergers and Acquisitions, Brooklyn Flea Vintage & Record Fair

So if you know me, you know that my only rule for dressing myself is that I don't wear black...I think this stems from growing up in the hot ass tropical jungle that is South Florida.  Its actually kind of strange to see people wearing head to toe black in Florida, anyway...I digress. So lately I've actually been taking my time looking through the black section when I go thrifting and I'm actually considering wearing black this fall (NY is finally seeping into my wily ways). None of these things are all black, they've all got embellishments, grommets, rhinestone. A little pizzazz so as not to feel so...black. I especially love the red/gold/green sequined number, ironically the label is Sequin Queen....coincidence? I think not. I also love the Eres skirt with the pop art tree print. The "Colette" bag is from Beacons closet yesterday. Its ginormous and when my husband went to pay for it he said it belonged to the cashier. She had it for 10 years and was ruing the day she sold it, but oh well. I promise to love, cherish and obey it. My other fave thing this week is this nudish color hat that looks like a brain with a bow on it. I actually feel like my brain has a bow on it sometimes. I also love the 2 tone accordian pleated caftan and the quilted silky Bill Tice robe. Yummm, love those peachy flesh tones with loads of gold bangles and baubles. Ahhhh, so after being thoroughly inspired by my finds this week, I decided to check out the Brooklyn Flea's record and vintage clothing fair, under the picturesque Brooklyn Bridge. It was fabulous. Lots of variety and a really great vibe. My favorite thinks were the massive Egyptian necklace at Joseph's jewelry booth and a pair of bananas ass wide leg pants with an invisible sailor at my friend Amy's booth...shout out to Jellyroll vintage! Enjoy! and p.s. please bare with me as I navigate the confusing world of html and accessorize this blog. XO
